Vail Jazz at Solaris – LIONEL YOUNG QUARTET
Colorado-based bluesman Lionel Young plays electric violin and slide guitar, and leads the Lionel Young Quintet with high-energy vocals that always find the groove. Lionel is the only double-winner in International Blues Challenge history — as frontman with the Lionel Young Band and on his own in the competition’s solo-duo category. Born in Rochester NY, Lionel began violin lessons at age six and has compiled a host of awards ever since, including Best Blues Band in Westword’s Best of Denver. He has worked with such multi-genre masters as Count Basie, Stevie Wonder, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant, Doc Severinson, Linda Ronstadt, and Stanley Turrentine. Get your feet tappin’ and body movin’ to Lionel and his band’s original tunes and interpretations of blues classics by Willie Dixon, Lead Belly, T-Bone Walker, and Muddy Waters.
