Hailing from Boulder, Lao is a pianist, keyboardist, composer and recording artist now based in LA. With a jazz and world-fusion bent…with a little rock thrown into the mix…his quartet combines memorable originals with some reimagined high-energy classics. Lao, the son of hippies with a Russian-Jewish background, is convinced that his ethnic family heritage, combined with the sights and sounds of ‘80s and ‘90s pop culture, encouraged his embrace of a wide variety of influences including Led Zeppelin, U2, and Cat Stevens. Tizer’s latest album, Songs from the Swing House, is a highly regarded, larger ensemble release offering energetic, complex and upbeat jazz… sometimes compared to Snarky Puppy or the Chick Corea Electric Band. The quartet offers a thoughtful, expansive take on Lao’s creative repertoire. Musicians: Lao Tizer (keys), Anthony Crawford (bass), Gene Coye (drums), Chieli Minucci (guitar)
